A commodity is anything that can be bought or sold based solely on price. YOU SAY YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE AT WAR?

You are at war with the marketplace. It is the marketplaces mission to define you, your company, your product or service as a commodity. It is your mission to tell your prospects that you are not like everyone else, that you are special and the obvious choice to do business with. You allow the marketplace to win the war by not giving your prospects any alternative to consider other than price. Price is not the main concern of your customers. This is true of 99.9999% of the businesses out there. Your prospects are trying to make the smartest buying decision they can. How do  you help them in this quest? By producing ads that are full of platitudes and that look just like everyone else's?

I OFTEN ASK MY CLIENTS THIS QUESTION.

Here it is. If your prospects knew as much about your industry and your company as you know, would they conclude that you are the obvious choice to do business with? If the answer is no then you may have internal problems in your business that are beyond the scope of most marketing. But, if the answer is yes and you are still losing the war then you have a golden opportunity to change your marketing strategy and defeat the marketplace by leading your prospects to conclude they would be an absolute fool to do business with anyone else but you regardless of price. There is no reason why you shouldn't actually be the obvious choice to do business with.

HOW I DISCOVERED MONOPOLIZE YOUR MARKETPLACE.

I spent 28 years in the commercial and industrial construction business where the easiest thing I had to do was build a building. The hardest thing was getting someone to sign on the dotted line to let me start building. Architects would tell prospective clients that they would take care of assuring quality control and thereby reducing a building owners decision to one of price and price alone. (I could tell you many stories of why this is a dumb way for an owner to select a contractor but that is really beyond the scope of this web site). I quickly came to believe that marketing and sales was the key to our business and indeed to any business. I began studying marketing from all of the well known marketing gurus and found most of them to be geniuses at putting on  seminars but short on instructions on exactly how to execute the plan. The main problem was that there was no plan, just theory. Then I discovered Y2 and Monopolize Your Marketplace (MYM). What appealed to me about MYM was that it was a system. Being an old construction guy I would often tell people, "Give me a plan, stake the corners of the lot, and I will call you when I am ready to hand you the keys". Just give me a plan. The MYM system is like that. Do step one first, then step two, then step three and so on. Like building, it is not quite as easy as that sounds but things happen in a logical order and that alone made marketing easier for me.

I began doing seminars in order to find clients. One problem with seminars I discovered was that people liked the content and learning about how to grow their business and small business marketing, but they didn’t like actually going to the seminar. It wasn’t the money or the fee I charged for the seminar but rather the time spent away from other things they needed to be doing, and the travel, food, and lodging expense of going to a seminar. It got me thinking: What if you could go to a seminar without actually leaving your home; What if you could time shift the seminar so that you could attend at your convenience on your schedule; What if you could learn a step by step system to grow your business while sitting at home in your jammies? Towards that end I have developed a teleseminar that will be recorded and available for download. You can listen at your leisure from your computer or MP3 player.
